Premier League: Nottingham Forest 0-0 Brentford - Awoniyi goal ruled out for offside

Premier League: Nottingham Forest 0-0 Brentford - Awoniyi  goal ruled out for offside

Nottingham Forest and Brentford played out a goalless draw in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, with Taiwo Awoniyi having a goal ruled out for offside.

The game was a close affair throughout, with both sides having chances to win. Forest had the better of the first half, with Awoniyi going close on a number of occasions. The Nigerian striker thought he had broken the deadlock in the 35th minute, but his goal was ruled out by VAR after Brennan Johnson was adjudged to have been offside in the build-up.

Brentford came into the game more after the break, but they were unable to find a breakthrough. Ivan Toney had the best chance of the second half, but he headed wide from close range.

The draw leaves Forest in 14th place in the Premier League table, while Brentford are 11th.

Awoniyi's disallowed goal

Awoniyi's disallowed goal was a contentious decision. Johnson was initially given offside in the build-up, but replays showed that he was onside. The decision was overturned by VAR, but then the referee ruled that Awoniyi was offside when he received the ball.

The decision was frustrating for Awoniyi, who was making his first Premier League start for Forest. The striker had a good game overall and was a constant threat to the Brentford defence.

Overall verdict

It was a fair result overall. Both sides had chances to win, but neither could take them. Forest will be disappointed to have dropped two points at home, but they can be pleased with their performance. Brentford will be happy to have taken a point from a difficult game.

Cross Island Parkway Traffic Delays in Queens Due to Flooding

Cross Island Parkway Traffic Delays in Queens Due to Flooding

Queens, NY – The Cross Island Parkway in Queens was experiencing traffic delays on Friday, September 30, 2023, due to flooding. The northbound side of the parkway was completely closed, while the southbound side was moving very slowly.

The flooding was caused by a powerful coastal storm that slammed the tri-state area on Friday. The storm brought heavy rain and strong winds, which caused widespread flooding on roadways and transit changes.

Video footage from the scene showed several inches of water on the Cross Island Parkway, near the Northern Boulevard exit. A municipal worker was seen trying to clear a storm drain on the road.

The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) advised drivers to avoid the Cross Island Parkway if possible and to use alternate routes. The DOT also said that crews were working to clear the flooding and reopen the northbound side of the parkway as soon as possible.

The traffic delays on the Cross Island Parkway caused major headaches for commuters. Many drivers were forced to take long detours, which added to their travel time.

The flooding on the Cross Island Parkway is a reminder of the dangers of climate change. Extreme weather events, such as heavy rainfall and coastal flooding, are becoming more common and more severe. It is important to be prepared for these events and to know what to do if you are caught in one.

Here are some tips for driving safely in flooded conditions:

  • If you see flooding, turn around and do not drive through it.
  • If you must drive through flooding, go slowly and carefully.
  • Be aware of the depth of the water and avoid driving through areas where the water is deeper than 6 inches.
  • Be prepared to stop at any time.
  • If your car stalls in floodwaters, get out and move to higher ground as quickly as possible.

If you are stranded in floodwaters, call 911 for assistance.

Japan's new defense chief agrees with U.S. to step up deterrence

Japan's new defense chief agrees with U.S. to step up deterrence

Minoru Kihara, the newly appointed defense minister of Japan, made his first phone call to Lloyd Austin, his American counterpart, on Thursday, and the two men pledged to enhance the deterrent and reaction capabilities of their long-standing alliance.

After assuming his position earlier this month, Kihara told reporters that he had "constructive discussions" with Austin and that they both agreed to intensify collaboration on those issues. The conversation was made before Kihara's anticipated trip to Washington, D.C., to meet with Austin in person at the beginning of October.

According to Kihara, they also decided to strengthen trilateral cooperation with South Korea as North Korea continues to develop its missile and nuclear capabilities and that Tokyo and Washington will cooperate more closely than ever to thwart any unilateral attempts to alter the status quo in the Indo-Pacific region, where China has been increasingly displaying its military might.

According to the American protection Department, Austin wished Kihara well in his new role and reaffirmed America's "ironclad commitment to the defense of Japan."

The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden has frequently lauded Japan's commitment to considerably increase its defense capabilities and investment late last year.

In a significant policy shift under the country's war-renouncing Constitution, Japan amended its core military papers in response to the security threats presented by China and North Korea and pledged to develop so-called counterstrike, or enemy base strike, capabilities.

By 2025, the 12th Marine Littoral Regiment will have replaced the 12th Marine Regiment, which is stationed in Okinawa, Japan's southernmost prefecture.

The rearrangement is a part of the American military's attempts to be flexible in small-group marine deployments to far islands, taking into account China's increasing aggressiveness near isolated islets in southern Japan and Taiwan in actions that have increased the possibility of war.

Austin and Kihara, according to Kihara, have agreed to continue talking about the roles, duties, and capabilities of each nation, including how Japan will use its counterstrike capabilities.
